Golfer’s Commemorate Friend With Ged Hockey Award

European Tour Winner Nick Dougherty said “It’s a course that will excite and test golfers in equal measure and one that I am confident will be seen as a modern challenge .” Widely known as one of Bedfordshire’s premier courses, Bedford & County Golf Club is a well-presented course, with superbly paced greens and set amongst glorious countryside. This perpetual golfing competition is held at the Bedford & County Golf Club, and commemorates Ged Hockey and his gross 65 shot there.

The striking trophy was presented to the winner of a medal play played at Bedford and County golf club, nearest to where the organiser’s late friend Ged Hockey shot a gross 65. The presentation dinner was in attendance of four of his closest friends and the award was presented to this year’s winner at a later date.

More than a Medal

Coming from a background of medals and trophies at EFX, we were intrigued as to why this type of golf competition is called a Medal. The most prestigious golf competitions these days, at club or professional level, tend to be played as Medalplay or Strokeplay competitions. This is because often the winners were given a medal and the winners of the competition were then called the Medallist.

This trophy is way more than a medal, standing at 300mm and made from laser engraved solid oak and a polished nickel plated aluminium base. This trophy also has magnetic stainless steels plates with winner’s details on the front and the back of the metal base, which makes it simpler to add further winner’s names in future competitions. The feedback on the trophy was fantastic. The organiser shared with us “The members thought that the trophy was very different to all the other prizes, in the fact it was not a cup or a salver. It definitely stands out in the trophy cabinet.”
