EFX Designed European Car of the Year Award Glitters at Geneva International Motor Show
The Opel/Vauxhall Astra has been named European Car of the Year 2016. It was a close-run contest this year; many, but not quite enough, of the 58 motor journalist jurors from 22 countries were also impressed by the Volvo XC90. Considered to be the most important prize in the car industry, the accolade brings with it significant publicity and commercial benefits in the form of increased sales. The stakes are high and the excitement surrounding the announcement of this year’s winner, at the 86th Geneva International Motor Show, was palpable.
Given the prestige of the event and the global press interest, the trophy has become a key element of the occasion. This year, Special EFX was approached to design and manufacture the awards. The selected design stands 160mm tall and weighs 7 kilos. It features a striking, three-tier prism, which is precision-cut from jet-black crystal and polished gold-plated aluminium. The famous Car of the Year emblem is digitally printed within a gold-plated frame, glittering against the black crystal.
