EFX Creates Stunning Award For New Era Of Women’s Netball

Ahead of their exciting Grand Final in July, Netball Super League came to EFX to collect their spectacular trophy, see it being assembled & some behind the scenes of our manufacture too! It was fantastic to see their excitement and first impressions of the trophy in person. The trophy has been in every part of our production, whether it be machining, polishing, plating, engraving & assembly, so the whole EFX team was ecstatic to see the finished stunning result. The trophy was revealed live on BBC’s The One Show on the 10th June, and it was fantastic to see our work on national TV for all to see & for such an inspiring event.
Netball Super League are entering into a bold new era in 2025. As a female-owned business at EFX, we were so honoured to be asked to create something outstanding for this new wave of women’s netball. Our Director Holly McLeish had this to say about this exciting new collaboration. – “As a female-owned and led business, we’re incredibly proud to champion British manufacturing and the vital role it plays in both our economy and our creative industries,”… “The nature of our business always presents us with interesting and exciting projects and having the opportunity to design and produce the prestigious trophy for the Women’s Netball Super League is a genuine honour. It represents not just excellence in sport, but the power of female achievement and leadership, values that resonate deeply with our team and our company ethos.”
To complete the circle of female achievement on this project, it was designed by Liz Tilly our Head of Design. Beyond her design achievements, Liz is known for her collaborative approach, working closely with clients to ensure each award not only meets but exceeds expectations. Her 24 year dedication to excellence and her ability to translate a vision into a tangible, elegant design make her an invaluable asset to the EFX team.
Designed By Women, For Women
Regarding the inspiration behind the design of the award, after speaking with a member of the NSL team and looking at their brand kit Liz wanted to create something that was representative of the NSL and its values. She was keen to recognise tradition in the shape of the award but with the separating rings as the awards rises to be symbolic of the upward momentum of female professional sport.
Incorporating negative space to look through the award so that the players behind the award could be seen and not overshadowed was also an important factor. It was important to create a piece that can be viewed from different perspectives to reveal more details and design elements. The main body of the award, top sphere & rings are created from solid high shine aluminium & plated in a luxurious 24ct Gold Plate, the rings are printed with the striking rainbow imagery which reflects onto the stacked rings which is incredibly effective! The base has a magnetic stainless steel plate ready for the winners’ names to be engraved in July. The mega award also has an acrylic bevelled plinth to be mounted upon & displayed, adding the extra wow factor.
Commenting on the new trophy, Claire Nelson, Managing Director of the Netball Super League, said: “As we relaunched the League this year, we wanted to create a trophy that is beautiful, unique and aspirational. In line with our commitment to illuminate the indisputable power of women both on and off the court, working with a female-led business to bring this vision to life has been hugely important. Together we have created an incredible trophy that truly reflects the new era we have entered and is something that NSL Champions for many years to come will feel proud to lift.”
