On Tuesday 15th February there was a star-studded gathering at the Roundhouse, in Camden, of some of the most celebrated names in motor sport. Invited to attend by Motor Sport Magazine, they came together to honour Sir Jack Brabham OBE, Sir Frank Williams CBE, Jody Scheckter and Dario Franchitti and to witness their induction into the acclaimed Motor Sport Hall of Fame.

As a lasting souvenir of the occasion, each was presented with an EFX made silver encapsulated acrylic and nickel plate award, the sleek design inspired by the contours of a racing wheel. Commenting on his accolade, Sir Frank Williams said, “Number one I must remind myself not to let my ego get the better of me, because this is an amazing magic. It is an honour, something I will try not to brag about”.

Last year the Square Mile 30 under 30 Awards were launched by Square Mile Magazine, to celebrate talented youngsters in the City, all aged 30 or under, who excel in their field. The event created a huge buzz and is back again this year - only bigger. As the awards ceremony on Friday 25th March approaches, THE current hot topic in the City is who has won the 30 prestigious awards this year, which span eight categories including politics, legal, entrepreneurship and social enterprise.

To reflect the hype surrounding the occasion, Special EFX has come up with a suitably striking translucent red acrylic design for this year’s winners, strongly branded with the vibrant corporate red of Square Mile’s logo. The awards are being presented at a champagne reception and dinner at the Museum of London, which is to be followed by an after-party at China Whites.

As the spotlight falls on the markets of Libya, Japan, Bahrain…young City workers will also be holding their breath for an entirely different reason!

Sporting a plaster cast is just not cool, nor practical, and so despite Special EFX being a corporate sponsor of the 4th Annual Cool Venues Awards, Melanie had to miss out on the awards party this year. Such a shame, as judging by the pictures a wild time was had by all thanks to Wesley Mendy and Prestige Events Magazine, hosts of the awards.

So which venues were considered so charismatic, original, stylish, innovative, sexy…in fact, so COOL in 2010 that they walked off with the engraved crystal book awards created by Special EFX? Well, winners included Altitude 360, Blenheim Palace, Wembley Stadium, the Fabric Bar and Battersea Power Station Boiler House…an eclectic mix and worth considering next time you want a big turn out for your event.

EFX started life in the jewellery quarter of Birmingham and, despite becoming a leading designer and manufacturer of awards in a variety of materials, we still love working with precious metals. So, when ISS UK, one of the world’s largest facility service providers, commissioned us to design and make bijoux lapel pins, for its long service awards, we were absolutely delighted.  Each silver gilt pin bears the ISS logo, deeply stamped into the face, hallmarked on the reverse and then presented in a smart box.

Craig Smith, Head of Communications at ISS UK explains the quality of the awards is key: “ISS UK believe it is important to recognise those people achieving long service in the company with a quality product and the EFX pins fit the bill perfectly”.

What do you give to a Princess, who has travelled all the way from Saudi Arabia to Blackburn, to attend your school’s presentation awards ceremony?  Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School and Sixth Form College invited Her Royal Highness, Princess Lolowah Al-Faisal, because HRH is passionate about education, particularly that of women and were amazed when she accepted and flew in for the event held on 20th January, 2011.

The Tauheedul Trust commissioned Special EFX to create a special Ummah (community) award in recognition of HRH’s work, which they presented to the Princess on the night.  An elegant crystal design was commissioned and presented on a lilac printed nickel plated plinth. The finishing touch was the award was presented in a hand made lilac silk lined box.
