Scottish Green Energy AwardsScotland’s Green Energy awards proved to be the largest ever in its ten years history, and amongst the winners were First Minister Alex Salmond.  Whilst Mr Salmond pre-recorded his acceptance speech and was not there to receive his EFX made award, the event was attended by a 950 strong audience and took place at the National Museum in Edinburgh on December 1 2011.

The awards were made in polished aluminium and featured a stainless steel ball and captured the essence of The Scottish Green Energy logo.  Scotland is acclaimed for its pioneering reputation in the renewables sector, endorsed by Alex Salmond who tasked the population of Scotland to strive to make their country leaders in new energy systems “compatible with the future of this planet”.

On receiving The House Magazine’s 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award, back in December, Tony Benn said he would put his award “on the mantelpiece tonight, with a lot of mugs and other various things which I have accumulated through the course of my life”.  EFX trophies get everywhere!  This particular one is a special one off, made of solid, nickel plated, polished aluminium and depicts the Portcullis inspired logo of The House Magazine.

The occasion was rather special as Gisela Stuart MP and Editor of the magazine ( a weekly publication providing MPs and Peers the chance to write about key issues) presented the award to him following the last in a series of lectures on famous parliamentarians sponsored by the Commons Speaker John Bercow and given by Labour MP and historian Tristram Hunt.  Tony Benn, who attended the lecture with his family, evidently found the whole occasion very enjoyable and commented jokingly that he had “attended my own obituary”

When the Events Industry gets together, it certainly knows how to party! The Eventia Awards, which took place at the Hilton on Park Lane, was certainly a high spot of 2011; the pace was set by X Factor star Johnny Robinson and the event hosted by comedian Alistair McGowan, plus £10,000 was raised for the Teenage Cancer Trust – quite a night!  The ‘Romeo’ awards, as they are fondly called, were made to impress by EFX, from fabulous cast bronze plated in either matt gold or matt nickel - the outstanding quality of which reflects the stature of the Awards.

Eventia is a network for organisations that provide business solutions through the use of events and the Awards attracted a record number of over 700 entries.  And the happy winners? Well, they danced the night away along with their Romeo.

The new Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre, located next to the Olympic Park in east London, opened last September with huge razzmatazz and a host of guest appearances from celebrities.  The complex will provide the main access to the Olympic Park and be a major retail hub throughout and after the Games.

To celebrate the successful culmination of a £1.75bn deal to sell 50% of the shopping centre, Westfield and Ashurst (Westfield's legal advisors) commissioned ‘deal tombstones’ from Special EFX, which were given to all those involved in the development and their advisors.  The design was inspired by the ubiquitous shopping bag and was worked up by the EFX studio and the in-house team at Ashurst. Made from polished nickel plated aluminium with full colour artwork behind clear acrylic, the design was a fitting pictorial tribute to mark such a major milestone.

Sid Ogwin is an amazing man and a true Red fan.  Sid has been blind since he was 14, but as a season ticket holder of Liverpool Football Club from the 1960s, he has been a devoted follower of the Club, attending home matches in the Centenary Stand alongside a friend who commentates on all the action unfolding on the field. Standard Chartered, main Club sponsors of Liverpool FC, also think Sid is rather special, presenting him with the Standard Chartered Fan of the Month award for November.

Made by EFX in polished and satin finished nickel plated aluminium, the trophy replicates the much-coveted Standard Chartered Player of the Month Award, which was won by Craig Bellamy in December.

The Macmillan Quality Environment Mark (MQEM) is a detailed quality framework used for assessing whether cancer care environments meet the standards required by people living with cancer. It is the first assessment tool of its kind in the UK and was first run as a pilot in 2009. The accreditation, visually reinforced by a clear acrylic wall plaque with metal tick, gives patients reassurance that the unit is regularly checked and that it is maintaining a high quality environment for them, which will be portrayed in the care they receive.

The MQEM programme initially awarded 14 pilot sites throughout the UK during 2009, another 16 cancer care environments were awarded during 2010 and 27 in 2011.
